Easiest way of getting the fabric, sat watching something myself that I could massacre  I just hope noone bids on it  I like things for £1 even with postage its cheaper than getting the fabric from Harrogate and just means unpicking stitches and reconfangumalating it into something more appeasing

And make some new pocket flaps to turn an unmodified '49 into a '39 look-a-like :D

Remember that nasty M1 helmet I got a while back ?
( )

Well I was using Nitromors on it today. Luckily I didn't leave it on very long and didn't use the wire brush so I found this :

It is front seam too so Im concluding that the liner and straps are all original. Not bad for £40 :)

My problem now is lifting the rest of the paint without damaging whats undernieth. Ive tried my conservetor bit on some of it (at last a use for my archaeology degree!) but the red paint lifts very easily so Im trying to work out what the best course of action is. (annoyingly if I'd known from the start I could have continued as I started and it would have been done with minimal damage but cos I stopped its now much more difficult)!

Anyone got any ideas? My dad suggested plain celulose thinner done in very small sections with a scalpel and small stiff brush. Im a little hesitant as I dont want to damage the original paint any further.

Ive stripped helmets back to original paint underneath with nitromors or similar but not painted on and left to bubble as instructed.-Ive dipped a cloth into the stuff and slowly rubbed the paint off-Seemed to work ok for me and sort of didnt get enough time to react/damage the paint underneath.

Good buy there    -looks like that horrid green paint put off potential bidders

Picked this up from Farnham Militaria Fair this morning. Some SERIOUSLY overpriced stuff there (german rucksacks for 4 times what i paid for mine for example!), but i did find this little baby :)

I heard the Ciney Militaria Fair was rather overpriced as well this sunday.
